My name is Rebecca and I suffer from mental illness. To be more specific I suffer from depression, anxiety and PTSD.
Right, now that has been announced to the world let me explain what this shiny new blog is all about! It has been suggested to me that writing some of my thoughts and feelings down may help during my recovery process. This may be true, but writing in a notebook just doesn't do that much for me. I find it difficult to do as I don't feel any benefit from it. This is where you come in (and the blog of course)! See, I thought, instead of giving up on the whole "writing things down" thing, I should create a blog which I post too as little or as much as I like. This way my words aren't just sitting in a notebook for me to stumble across in twenty years time and cringe at, but they are out there, in the big ol' world.
Still sound a little odd? See, I like helping others. I am hoping that someone, somewhere, may stumble across this blog, may relate to it, may even have an "OH MY GOD THIS IS MY LIFE STORY" moment and this blog may help them in some way. Or that they see this and know that they are not alone and that I am here to speak too if they need me.
I should highlight that last point again. If you need someone to talk to, I am here for you. I will listen and I will try and point you in the right direction if I can. No one deserves to go through mental illness alone, so if you are reading this and need me, I'm only a message away.
I digress, but it was an important digress I feel. Back to the point of this blog; I want to try this "writing to aid my recovery" whilst trying to help others. As this is the case I will be asking guest bloggers to share their mental health experiences, I will be looking into different ways to boost good mental health and I will be looking into the bigger mental health picture in the hope that we can, as writer and reader, can begin to understand the importance of good mental health and what mental ill health can mean.
So, welcome to the first post of many. I hope that you will join me on this big ol' journey, as I have along way to go and so does the world as we battle mental health stigma. Thank you for reading and I hope you will swing by again sometime soon.
Sending positive thoughts your way and hoping you are well,
Rebecca :)
